IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - ABOVE DINNER DATE TO BE RESCHEDULED
Due to the recent announcement of Joe Calzaghe's world title fight with Bernard Hopkins, Joe has requested to reschedule the above Dinner date for him on February 9th 2008 at Newcastle, to a later date after his fight. This is because of his promotional commitments to HBO TV network and then his strict training schedule. The new date will be on a Saturday evening and the date will be confirmed as soon as possible.
The above event is being presented by Martyn Devlin of “Fighting Talk” Promotions in conjunction with the Bilton Hall ABC Jarrow and the Premier Inn Hotel Newcastle City.
 A momentous sporting dinner is organised and will feature the World’s longest reigning boxing champion – Joe Calzaghe MBE.
After a sensational Amateur career during which Joe made history by winning 3 senior ABA titles in 3 different weight divisions, he turned professional in 1993 and made his winning debut on the under card of the Lennox Lewis v Frank Bruno fight at Cardiff Arms Park. Joe went on to win the British super-middleweight title in only his 14th professional bout. He then defeated the tough and charismatic Chris Eubank to win the WBO title in a bruising battle during which Joe floored Eubank in the first round. Joe then defended his title against all comers that included, the capable Richie Woodhall, Robin Reid, and Charles Brewer. Joe was then matched in his next title defence against the highly rated American Jeff Lacy. Joe produced what was described by many as the best ever performance by a British world champion when he totally dominated Lacy with blistering hand speed to win a unanimous points verdict. The Contender TV show finalist Peter Manfredo Jnr was Joe’s next challenger, but he was stopped in three one sided rounds. Joe’s next and most recent fight was at Cardiff for the undisputed world title against the tough WBA and WBC champion Mikkel Kessler. More than 50,000 fans watched a classic contest which lived up to all expectations, and after 12 exciting rounds Joe once again came out on top using his box-fighting style to win a unanimous points decision.
The evening will include a 3-course dinner, the opportunity to put a question to Joe about his career, big screen fight-clips, entertainment, raffle, and an auction of items signed by Joe and other boxing greats. All attending will have the opportunity to meet Joe, have a signed photograph, and personal photograph taken with him.
Tickets for the event are priced at only £65 per person. Any deposits will be accepted but full payment must be made one week before the event. Seating arrangements will be governed by confirmation of full payment, and anyone organising and collecting weekly payment in for a full table for 10 persons will receive one free extra ticket.
